It's hard to tell from the picture, but this bowl is almost sixteen inches in diameter — the largest thing I've turned to date. It was turned from a sycamore log a neighbor kindly let me have, and that I let season in the back yard for a few years. The log was more than three feet across, so I have a bunch more blanks to turn. This one was a gift to my parents.

Here are the blanks cut from that huge sycamore. I had to buy a new, larger chain saw just to cut it up.

Here's one of the blanks, cut round, with a screw in the center and a layout circle drawn on it, sitting on the bench in a fair amount of sawdust.

And the bowl on the lathe. It's the biggest thing I've ever turned.

And a quick clip of the blank spinning on the lathe.
