This is the base for my kiln, so I can move it around the shop. It was an early welding project, and I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

And the base on its own, on its casters.

./kiln-base.jpg

And here is the enclosure for the electronics, a PID (ramp/soak) controller for the kiln, sitting on its stand next to the base. I wound up not liking the arm very much, so mostly the enclosure sits on the floor for now. I'll eventually mount it to the wall when the kiln moves to its forever home. Some day.

And yes, that's the inside of the kiln controller. The wiring is a bit of a mess. Something to improve on.

Building it (January and February 2022)

On New Year's Day I cut the steel tubing for the frame. On the right are the pieces I needed; on the left is what was left over from what I started with.

./cut-tubing.jpg

And this is what they were getting welded into: an octagonal frame.

./octagon-frame.jpg

A few days later the kiln's controller was plugged in and reading. Working!

./kiln-working.jpg

By early February the kiln was sitting on its finished base, with the controller on its stand next to it. It works, and now I can get it out of the way.

./kiln-on-base.jpg

This is an earlier version of the control box, before I decided that a metal enclosure would be a good idea with 25 amps running through it.
