This is an early attempt at a turned "box" (yes, that's what they're called, even though they're round). The coloring in the side is turquoise, embedded in the piece with superglue and then polished on the lathe. I wish I'd done a better job with the lid, but live and learn. I think it looks decent for an early effort.

The acorn box
Here's another one, which came out looking pleasingly like an acorn, given that it's made of oak. It's some random piece of oak from I have no idea where. The finial is made out of something else, and is my least favorite part of the piece.
