The goal for the day on November 11, 2023: turn a pair of cheap vises into something a bit more precise, for use on one of the CNC machines at the makerspace. We often have to mill extrusion, and it's important it be aligned with the machine's axis. There isn't really an easy way to hold parts on that particular machine, so I figured I'd come up with something.

This is what I started with.

Fixturing

Step one was to figure out how to fixture it so I can mill some precision into it. Here's the base upside-down on the mill vise, with a dial indicator reading its surface. I think this will work.

Here it is on the router. It works pretty well - we align it with the side rail using 123 blocks, clamp down the vises, and we have something we can repeatably secure extrusion in.
